Enclosure No. 5 to China Letter No. 1536/1041 of
21st December, 1926.
No. 1041.
Sir,
H.M.S."Hawkins",
at Hong Kong.
1st December, 1926.
24
With reference to your letter No. 1 in
4101/1910 of 26th November, I am desired to inform you that insurance of ships flying the White Ensign is not in accord- ance with ordinary Admiralty Policy and no exception to this can be promised, but as the proposed terms seem very reasonable, the Naval Commander-in-Chief is prepared to recommend that the cost of insurance of the three armed launches against loss or serious damage be shared by the Colonial Government and the Admiralty should the Colonial Government decide to insure
against their share of the risks.
2. It is observed that no special reference to typhoon risks appears in the Insurance Company's quotation but perhaps these are included in the general terms "stranded, sunk, &c.".
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
The Honourable
The Colonial Secretary,
HONG KONG.
(Sgd.) H.W.Woodward.
Secretary to
the Commander-in-Chief.
